Born and bred in Penang, Malaysia, she has now settled in the UK for over 13 years. Prior to settling down in the UK, she’s been living and working in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Her full time work is within the IT Software industry. After settling down in the UK and wanted to be in touch with Theravada Buddhism, she found out about Amaravati and have been coming and helping out at Amaravati since 2000. She has been practising Buddhism since her early teens when she was dragged to Buddhist temples by her mother. Her curiosity about the religion arose then and as they say, the rest is history. She can be found in Amaravati almost every Saturday, helping out in the kitchens and occasionally at the retreat centre kitchen during the retreat months. Sharron lives in Aston Clinton, about 25 mins from Amaravati and often drops by when needed or requested!
Born in Sri Lanka. She has been interested in Buddhism when she was early teens at Sunday Dhamma School and of course being to temples Uposatha days with her family.
She heard about Thai forest tradition when she was studying in Australia and then after moving to UK practising nearly two years as an Architect she was desperately looking for a monastery and found Amaravati, it’s part of her family now. She found so many great spiritual Dhamma teachers in Amaravati. She says it’s a great opportunity to help volunteers to do good with their time and skills, also help the monastics for their priceless Dhamma teachings and, them to continue living as a vehicle of Dhamma…
Currently, she lives in Central London, but if you need help she will be there for you as always!!!
Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Gricel also lived in the USA for 17 years where she studied photography and then taught at Johns Hopkins University and the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Gricel moved to the United Kingdom in 2010 with her British husband Mark Lewis, also a supporter of the Sangha. Gricel first learned of Chithurst and Amaravati monasteries while living in USA during a monastic silent retreat at IMS (Insight Meditation Society). Soon after that ‘coming home’ experience she started to visit and stay at both monasteries during her summer holidays, finding refuge and wisdom in the Dhamma as taught by the Sangha there, as well as through living in the community of lay and monastic people. Gricel and her husband were involved in the establishment of Temple Forest Monastery in New Hampshire, USA, helping as volunteers and returning every year since 2014.
